About Department

The teaching of Geography at Raja Harpal Singh P.G. College, Singramau started at intermediate level in 1925. In 1965 when the school of 1928 progressed ahead and become degree college. Dr. Surendra Pratap Singh become the Head of Department, who provided sharp guidance to this department. When the number of students increased another two posts were created and Dr. Narayan Singh and Dr. Pushpa Singh joined the department in 1970 and 1976 respectively. Dr. S. P. Singh took taken interest in the Department of Geography. So the department became life member of different geographical journals. Although geography was taught at U.G. level, he provided the books of higher studies for the teachers.
After the retirement of Dr. S.P. Singh, Dr. S.N. Singh became the head of the department who got Post Graduate department as the heritage of Dr. S. P. Singh. P. G. department of geography started in the upper dome of library building but with contribution of Dr. S. N. Singh. It shifted to new building which has better facilities. In the headship of Dr. S. N. Singh in 1995, Dr. Shambhu Ram joined the department as a lecture who implemented the preplanning of this department and poured eternal spirit in the teaching and management. Before Dr. Shambhu Ram when P. G. classes started in 1991, there were a lot of pressure of classes, thus Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh & Dr. Ram Jeet Singh were kept as part-timer lecturer. Dr. R. J. Singh is still remaining in the form of honorarium lecturer in the department whereas Dr. S. S. Singh left the department and joined another college. After retirement of Dr. S. N. Singh, Dr. Pushpa Singh became the head of department with one permanent staff Dr. Shambhu Ram. Dr. Pushpa Singh enriched the department very much.

Presently, the Department led by Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, along with coordinated efforts of permanent faculty Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Vimal Kumar Verma and guest faculties Mrs. Deepti Pandey.

The main thrust area of the department is the Physical Geography, Human Geography, Environment, Disaster Management & Climate Change, Economic Geography, Regional Geography, Agricultural Geography, Urban geography, Regional Development & Planning, Geography of India, Geographical thought & Fundamental of Remote Sensing and GIS.

Now there are plenty of surveying instrument, almirah, table, chair etc. The department has a fully equipped Cartography Lab & Computer Lab.

The Department of Geography's vision is to give its students with educational experiences of the highest qualities and committed to provide best teaching and scholarly activities within the work of academic freedom and diversity of innovative ideas. The department is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and to serving communities, from regional to global.

Mission

  • The mission of the Geography Department is to prepare students to engage in the processes that create more sustainable environments and communities throughout the Globe.
  • To lead the Geography Department in the development of academic, educational and geospatial technology, harnessing the integrative nature of geographic science to answer fundamental questions of global importance.

Objectives

  • To bring Geographical awareness among the students and masses to solve day to day environmental problems.
  • To contribute in the efforts to make the environment and society clean, greener and healthier place to live in.
  • To provide students with awareness about the earth's natural environment and its relationship to society.
  • To provide students with knowledge about the spatial association, spatial organization, spatial distribution, physical features and cultural features of the earth.

To provide students with a good grounding in the modern technical skills of the subject, including Remote Sensing, Geographic and Cartography.
